WELCOME TO ROD BUILDING 101
Kevin asked me to get this going, so here we go.

First, let me give you a little background on myself. I’m 67 years young and I have been flyfishing for over 45 tears. I used to live in Boothbay and worked at BIW as a welder, then as a welding instructor. I left Boothbay to take a position in Atlanta, then moved again to Salt Lake City. Never stopped fishing and have come to love the west and the huge opportunities that exist out here. However, Maine is still where my heart longs to be. I am an active volunteer with my local Project Healing Waters chapter and I teach a rod building class with them every year. I started building rods as a hobby, and it has morphed into a small business which I enjoy thoroughly. My rods tend to be what I refer to as “understated classic” in design, but as a custom builder I will build whatever a customer wants. I am recently retired and am enjoying life building rods and taking it easy. I have developed some friends on this site and have a few of my rods in the hands of buddies in New England.

My plan for this blog is to write entries in conjunction with the course I will be teaching at Healing Waters. This course takes first time builders from start to finish in the building process. I will, of course, be available to answer any questions you may have on building a custom rod. My class starts in the next week or two, so keep your eyes open for the next entry.
