We have found ourselves there, at some point in our lives, on the wrong side of the river. Standing there looking across seeing fish rise when you have just crossed to the other side or you make a decision in your life that takes you in a direction that others might think a little different or out of the norm. Being a fly fisherman and Maine guide often has me feeling I’m on the wrong side of the river. This is the name of Carrol Ware’s new book, On The Wrong Side of The River.
I met Carroll more than 20 years ago at a sportsman’s show. I saw one of his presentation and approached him about a famous Maine river rumored to hold huge wild brook trout. He was generous in sharing his knowledge. He told me how to get there and even gave me a starting point. I spent years catching huge trout exactly where he instructed me to go. The next time I saw Carroll was when I took his guide class 2 years later. Again, he was full of life experiences and a true Master Maine guide.
Over the years, Carroll and Lila have become our friends and we have shared a few cocktails. Stacy and I always love seeing these two and always have great laughs. If you haven’t met Carroll Ware, well, it’s time you do. He’s released a book filled with stories from his long life as a Maine outdoorsman and guide. He takes you along his journey from his first trout, to clients from Hell. It’s a fun easy read about a true Maine outdoor legend!
