Maine Hatches

When I started fly fishing many many years ago, there were very few resources for information.  It was around the time the internet was just getting started and there wasn’t a fly shop around that was very helpful.  This led to me start  www.maineflyfish.com. I wanted to create a place for new fly fishers to come and get the info they need to shorten the learning curve.  Things like water flows, hatches, basic fly tying, entomology and everything in between.  I wanted a site that not only helped the newbies out there but also appealed to the most experienced fisher as well.

I am going to do a series of blogs that will be the very basics of Maine hatches. I will show you pictures of the insects and flies that I have found to work over the years. I also will give you ideas of when to fish different flies. This will be very basic, no scientific names, no latin names, just the basics.

The fist one will be about BWOs, you have probably heard other fishermen speak this on the water and didn’t want to ask. So here is the first lesson BWO stands for Blue Wing Olive which is a mayfly.
