First Impressions:

Fly Shop Fly Shop

This was my first time visiting the shop and it won't be my last. Being from the Bangor area I had only heard the name Chandler Pond a couple of times. There was no major fishing destination for me near by so I had never driven by it. What I found when I arrived was that I had been missing out. This place is a fly tiers dream come true. There is wall after wall of fly tying material. If they don't have it, you don't need it. If you are looking for something unusual, they probably have it. I overheard Terry say he had a separate room for special materials.

Fly Shop Fly Shop

There isn't anything fancy about the place; it's not a new sparkly building but a place that welcomes you right when you walk through the door. You won't find any $600 rods, but you will find a rod and reel that won't break the bank and will still catch fish. You will find a large selection of vices, some very pricy, but this is a true fly tiers shop and it wouldn't be complete without some beautiful vices.

Chandler Pond specializes in fly tying and it shows it. There are beads, necks, thread, hooks, deer tails and many more walls of materials. I could spend many hours and a lot of money in this place. It was like walking into a fly tying catalog and then some.

I stopped and watched as people walk through the door and everyone was greeted with a smile and sometimes with a little teasing if they knew you. The day I visited, they were having their annual holiday sale with famous tiers, Ed "Muzzy" Muzeroll and Charlie Mann, creator of Mann's smelt. It was standing room only around these two guys.

You might want to catch this sale next year. I look forward to spending a little time and money here in the near future.

Who They Are:

Chandler Pond Outfitters was started out of necessity. We realized that most fly shops carry lots of rods and reels but very little in fly tying materials. Our idea was to fill the fly tying material void left by the typical fly shop. We wanted to open a fly tying materials shop that would cater to the fly tying enthusiast.

We started out by buying out several small fly shops, our primary interest was their materials. We visited shops from Michigan to Maine to get a feel for what was out there and to help us determine our niche. We opened our doors in December 2001 and have been expanding our inventory ever since. Product lines include: Tiemco, Mustad, Daiichi, Gamakatsu, Eagle Claw, Partridge, Gaelic Supreme, UNI, UTC, Giorgio Benecchi, Danville, Whiting, Umpqua, Keogh, just to name a few. We also carry rods (Albright and Temple Fork), reels (Okuma, Pflueger, Scientific Angler) fly line (Scientific Angler, Rio & Teeny Professional), tippet & leaders and leader material (Frog Hair, Rio, Maxima, Scientific Angler), a full range of Loon Products, fly dressings and fly boxes.

We can honestly make the statement that we have the largest selection of tying materials and hooks in the Northeast. If we don't have an item that you are looking for in stock, we will order it and ship it to you and we pay the shipping charges.
