My name is Kevin McKay and I am a Master Maine Guide living in the greater Bangor area with my supportive wife and two wonderful boys. I have lived and fished here all my life.
I have a love for the outdoors, conservation and wildlife. I am the president of the Sunkhaze Stream chapter of Trout Unlimited. We have started a Youth Day where kids are encouraged to try fly fishing to engage them in activities that will deter them from drug and alcohol abuse. We also run a five-week fly tying program for adolescents of military personnel. We support catch and release practices and have various other conservation projects underway yearly.
I have been fly fishing for ten years. Early on I found limited information on local Maine rivers with respect to fly fishing opportunities, so I created this online journal that encompasses fishing experiences, river information and wide variety of resources. As a result, I have learned that many people use this information to help them catch fish. I receive many emails asking various questions about fishing locations, fly tying and casting technique.
I have read many books, attended various sportsman shows, fly fishing expos and workshops, to acquire knowledge about tying flies, catch and release practices, equipment, and facts about fish. I pass my hands-on experience to anglers as well, knowing that it is the information about water temperature, weather conditions, season and types of flies, that will best equip anglers on their fishing trips to Maine.
After fishing a wide variety of rivers and lakes all over Maine, parts of New York, and parts of Canada, I realized this broad base of experience has taught me different locations require different equipment and produce different results. Often, fly shop owners have pointed me in the right direction.
All in all I am a fly fishing fanatic and thoroughly enjoy running my website, participating in online forums, guiding, fly tying and most of all FISHING!
(My family would say I bring this obsession for fishing to a hole new level...)
Sincerely,
Kevin McKay
